Constitutional Court not to Launch Procedure over SEC Rulebook

There are no legal obstacles preventing independent candidates whose candidacies are backed by at least two signatures by citizens to run in the upcoming local elections.

On Wednesday, the Constitutional Court decided against launching proceedings over the two initiatives to assess the constitutionality and lawfulness of the rulebook of the State Election Commission (SEC). That means that said rulebook is now in accordance with the Constitution and Electoral Code.

The initiatives had been submitted by the World Macedonian Congress organisation, represented by its President, Todor Petrov, and Stevce Stojanov, who believe that with the adoption of the rulebook, the SEC placed itself in the role of lawmaker.
