The insight into the Trubarevo fire will start on Wednesday (17 September). Also, authorities have sought an extension of the detention measure for all four suspects in the case. According to Interior Minister Pance Toskovski, there will be a thorough investigation into the fire.
On Tuesday, regarding the extraordinary analyses in relation to the fire, the Public Health Institute stated that according to that day’s examinations of water samples, radioactivity hadn’t been found, nor were there hazardous levels of heavy metals in the soil.
As it explained, there was an increase of two parameters (copper and zinc) from only one examined location, that is, the surface layer where lithium batteries were burning, but that was in the frames of expectations.
Tuesday also saw a recommendation, upon a request from Environment Minister Izet Mexhiti, sent to municipalities to conduct detailed control activities and identify all illegal landfills and unregistered waste locations, as well as to draw up plans to systematically remove them.
“The Ministry expects municipalities to take measures to advance the waste management and environmental protection situation, and the State Environment Inspectorate to urgently take activities related to control and management of landfills on the country’s territory”, Mexhiti’s institution added.
