On Saturday, PM and VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski criticised DUI over the issue of early elections.
“Polls show if such elections were held, VMRO-DPMNE would surely win over 62-63 MP seats, a stable majority with a strong reform agenda. However, let’s not kid ourselves. Early elections mean also wasted precious time. DUI’s exploiting the topic to be collecting clientelist votes, lying to its voters it would form a coalition with VMRO-DPMNE”, he stated, adding that he considered principles, not intrigues and politicking, mattered.
DUI, in his view, obviously doesn’t want reforms.
“It’s obvious you don’t want reforms. You stay in the same matrix with SDSM, which is a tragedy for the country”, Mickoski also noted.
The same day, however, Ali Ahmeti’s party said the current ruling structure was blocking North Macedonia’s EU path.
“While countries from the region, such as Montenegro and Albania have made progress in EU negotiations, North Macedonia remains the only country that still hasn’t opened any chapter”, it stressed.
DUI’s comments were criticised by VLEN, too, which ironically said Ali Ahmeti’s party was voicing a stand on the EU’s values even though 50% of its leadership were blacklisted by the US for high corruption.
