AMBICON Lab: Small Air Pollution in Trubarevo from 14 to 18 September

According to the AMBICON laboratory’s analyses, there was small air pollution in Trubarevo from 14 to 18 September. The measuring activities, which started a day after the fire, covered the yard of the Krum Tosev Primary School, that is, the measured locations were at a distance of 50 and 150 metres from the fire.

“Some unusually high concentrations of all analysed elements, including the regulated metals that are subject of interest, such as nickel, cadmium, and lead are not being noticed. Generally speaking, it’s about usual values. The air quality situation has been normalised, if we can define it that way”, Dejan Mirakovski, Stip-based Goce Delcev University Rector, said on Monday.

According to him, though a longer period of time will be needed for measuring according to legal regulations, it’s obvious air is not the medium that has suffered a consequence. Mirakovski also pointed out that most likely, following the fire, the dispersion of those gas particles had finished.

However, he is adamant that five-day measuring activities are not enough for a quality assessment process, which is why a recommendation has been made for the monitoring to continue.

What he finds key when it comes to the process to clean up the waste impacted by the fire is to follow all safety protocols and monitor the air quality situation. The Environment Ministry said there would be additional examinations to determine potential soil pollution in Trubarevo.
