Research conducted by the Faculty of Security has shown one in three citizens or a relative of theirs had contact with a corrupt servant. At a conference on Tuesday, it was highlighted that systemic corruption posed a serious security threat because corruption infiltrating institutions paralysed them.
The Faculty’s Dean, Jonce Ivanovski, stated that the alarming results of the aforementioned research showed a more serious approach was needed to the issue as a security threat to the country. Interior Minister Pance Toskovski stated that his institution’s Internal Affairs Sector had been swamped work-wise when it came to corruption within police.
“A huge number of cases and process activities have been taken in one and a half years. We’ve seen proper penalisation of those responsible for corrupt conduct”, he pointed out.
Certain prisons too have faced big corruption problems. The Acting Director of the Sanctions Execution Administration, Aleksandar Pandov, stated that corrupt persons should not only be fired, but also be put behind bars.
