On Saturday, on social media, President Gordana Siljanovska said it had been her honour to attend the reception organised by her US counterpart, Donald Trump, and First Lady Melania Trump, on the occasion of UNGA80.
“In these turbulent events in the world, it’s important for us not to give up on democratic values and to work jointly on preserving global peace and security”, she pointed out in the post, also expressing gratitude for the hospitality.
The US, the President noted, remain an honest ally of her country. Around two hours after her post, Siljanovska Davkova adamantly denied certain media reports according to which the person next to her in the photo was not Trump, but rather a wax figure of the US President.
“I appeal to media to professionally, responsibly, and honestly inform the public, with respect for the truth as the highest democratic principle of democracy”, she noted.
The President had multiple other activities during her visit in the US, too.
At an event marking the 20th anniversary of the founding of the United Macedonia Diaspora (UMD), held in Detroit, she was presented with the Global Statesperson Award. In her speech, the President stated that her commitment to the diaspora was more than election rhetoric.
“Our Government’s preparing a five-year National Strategy on the Diaspora, while my Cabinet is actively participating through representatives of its. This strategy should enable the diaspora to get much more actively involved in public debate and in the strengthening of the country. Additionally, as promised by me in my election programme, I plan to form a Diaspora Council as part of the President’s Cabinet”, she noted.
In addition, in New York, at an event marking 30 years of US-North Macedonia relations, she said she expected the strategic partnership would continue in the following 30 years too.
