Reactions to DUI Leader Ahmeti’s ‘Eagles’ and ‘Hounds’ Comments

On Monday, VMRO-DPMNE responded to Ali Ahmeti’s “hounds” and “eagles” comments, made by the DUI leader during the 28 September promotion of local election candidates of his party.

“You’re not an eagle, but rather a common sparrow. Essentially, you aren’t eagles either, but rather criminal and corrupt magpies. Exactly the most afraid are the loudest. With projects, with measures, with reforms, and with a better life. Albanians have for long been fed up with Ahmeti, which they will show in the next elections, together with Macedonians, everyone, in unity”, the ruling party noted.

According to VMRO-DPMNE, once DUI loses in nearly all municipalities in the local elections, the expectation will be for the “sparrows to be bringing letters containing coalition offers with blank concessions and promises that they will be reformed”.

However, DUI stated on Monday that Ahmeti’s message that hunting dogs were not used to hunt eagles wasn’t directed at ethnic Albanians in the country, but rather at VLEN’s leaders who, according to DUI, were servile to Mickoski.

On the other hand, on Monday, VLEN co-leader, Environment Minister, and Cair mayoral candidate Izet Mexhiti (who was the Municipality’s Mayor from 2005 to 2017) stated that it was about more than local elections.

“This is not just about me running for Mayor. This is the start of a mission to free Cair Municipality from the one-party monopoly”, he noted.

Among his priorities will be to solve problems related to parking, traffic, cleanliness, as well as to build new kindergartens. On the other hand, DUI’s Cair mayoral candidate, ex-Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani, stated that voters in the Municipality would have an easy choice.

“Cair’s citizens will be deciding whether they will continue as has been the case so far, in a Municipality in disorder, in chaos, in unlawful constructions, suffocated in narrow streets full of cars due to a lack of parking spaces. A Municipality that’s been declared least transparent and most unclean. A Municipality that’s been captured by a clique that is not even in Cair, thinking that we, the people in Cair don’t have the capacity to manage”, he noted.

Monday also saw other mayoral candidates officially start activities in the frames of the election campaign and present additional plans. In Karpos, Stevco Jakimovski, who’s running for another term, appealed to voters to vote in favour of solutions instead of supporting spiteful people.

“I appeal to them to vote in favour of those who will be solving their problems instead of those that will be creating more problems for them and making their life more difficult”, he noted.

When it comes to Levica, it carried out a so-called guerrilla activity, that is, members of the party, with their mouths taped shut, left a bag of improvised money and a TV outside the Media Agency building to express criticism of that institution’s decision according to which the Dimitar Apasiev’s party is not getting funds for political advertising in the campaign.
