Local Elections: Candidates Continue to Present Plans and Programmes

Mayoral candidates in the Skopje mayoral race and in municipalities have continued to present plans and programmes. VMRO-DPMNE Skopje candidate Orce Gjorgjievski said he was planning to renovate the Zoo and reopen the amusement park in the capital.

“When we talk about Skopje’s future, I always start with the three fundamental priorities of my action – renovating infrastructure, improving hygiene, and reforming public transport. Without clean streets, orderly traffic, and a functional system, there is no modern city. However, at the same time, without joy, culture, and place where our children grow with a smile, there is no living city either”, he underlined.

SDSM’s candidate in the Skopje mayoral race, Kaja Sukova, stated that her programme would prioritise the bus rapid transit (BRT) system’s implementation. In that regard, she said a project and documentation had already been drawn up, as well as that funds had been secured.

Levica’s candidate, Amar Mecinovic, talked about plans to improve the work conditions of PE workers. In Centar, ZNAM mayoral candidate Miroslav Labudovic said Centar would be the first municipality with a green budget.

“Everyone that will return a bottle or a can will get green points they will be able to use for buying, a parking service, or transport. We’re creating a system in which being responsible is not only valued, but also rewarded”, he stated.

In the same Municipality, SDSM’s candidate, Goran Gerasimovski, who’s running for another term, announced plans for vaccination and microchipping of stray dogs and pets aiming to increase safety of residents and quickly solve cases of lost pets.

“We’re ensuring humane treatment and a systemic approach to solving this longtime problem”, he stressed.

In Tetovo, VLEN’s candidate, Bilall Kasami, who’s running for another term, presented plans for infrastructure projects, including new streets.

“There’s intensive work every day on transforming Tetovo”, he underlined.

In Cair, First Deputy PM, Environment Minister, and VLEN mayoral candidate Izet Mexhiti stated on Friday that all speculation on early parliamentary elections were unfounded.

However, Bujar Osmani, who’s endorsed by the DUI-led National Alliance for Integration coalition in the Cair mayoral race, stated that he was convinced there would be early parliamentary elections in spring because the “status quo” was no longer untenable.

“In fact, it’s not even a status quo, but rather backsliding with regards to all strategic directions of the country”, the ex-Foreign Minister added.
