During Visit to Skopje, Slovak President Criticises EU over Enlargement

The EU is risking when it comes to enlargement, while North Macedonia’s integration shouldn’t be misused through political disputes. That was the message sent by Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, during a visit to Skopje on Tuesday.

At a press-conference with his counterpart, Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, he said the EU was making a big mistake with regards to the dynamism of enlargement.

The Slovak President expressed concerns that enlargement with Balkan countries would not be founded on their technical level of readiness, that is, there would only be political games to obstruct accession.

Siljanovska Davkova, regarding the upcoming visit by EC President Ursula von der Leyen, stated that she expected constructive discussions, but also for the matter of Bulgaria, “about which Macedonia has arguments” to be on the table as well.
