Organized crime and corruption are the two main security threats in the region, participants in the RCC-organized Conference in Skopje assessed. Speaker Afrim Gashi said citizens in the region considered that to be the biggest security threat. What’s second, as a new threat, he noted, is cyberattacks, which cannot be prevented easily.
Stefano Gambacurta, Deputy Director General of Public Security at the Italian Interior Ministry, said terrorism was one of the main threats, too, which was why exchanging information and greater cooperation to fight it was needed.
Italian Ambassador Palminteri stated that his country’s support for the RCC was part of its strategy for full-fledged EU membership of all Western Balkan countries.
“We are convinced that it’s possible, soon, for North Macedonia to be among the leading countries that will become members”, he added.
