At Thursday’s session of the City of Skopje Council, Green Humane City’s Marjan Kalevski said citizens had asked for the USJE factory to be relocated.
Institutions, the Council member assessed in that regard, including the City of Skopje, have the duty to enable them to have a healthy life. Mayor Gjorgjievski stressed that there would be a debate and conclusions would be submitted to relevant institutions such as the Environment Ministry.
At the end, a decision was made for there to be a debate. Thursday also saw the Stop to USJE initiative and citizens start the blockade at the crossroads connecting Boris Trajkovski and Srbija Boulevards.
“The blockade is a peaceful yet resolute protest against the continued pollution and poisoning”, protesters said, stressing institutions had for long tolerated a problem impacting the health of citizens instead of ensuring proper protection.
Earlier that day, nonetheless, the company had again refuted accusations, saying it worked in accordance with all standards.
