Sela: Safe City System is Tool for Discrimination against Albanians

Leader of one of the wings in the Alliance for Albanians, Ziadin Sela, accused that the Safe City system for traffic monitoring has been aimed against Albanians living in North Macedonia.

Sela argues that the cameras are installed intentionally in areas where majority of the population is Albanian, adding that the intention behind the system is not elevating traffic security, but extorting money from the Albanians and the other citizens through fines for alleged traffic violation.

Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski reacted to his claims, stating that the Safe City system does not discriminate the drives by their ethnicity.

“The Safe City system operates automatically and impartially; the camera does not distinguish between people, it simply records violations. The law applies equally to everyone, and the safety of citizens is our highest priority”, Toshkovski said while attending a test run of some of the cameras in Skopje on Sunday.
