Transporters Issue: WB Ministers Participate in High-level Meeting in Brussels

Transporters from the Western Balkans (WB) becoming part of the category of professional workers from international traffic exempt from rules on regulated stay in the Schengen zone is one of the long-term solutions the EC is considering in relation to the regional issue of transporters.

That was pointed out by the Ministry of Transport after Tuesday’s high-level meeting in Brussels where Ministers from all six countries from the region participated.

“The EC representatives confirmed the new Visa Strategy of the EU, in which transporters are accepted as professionals, and it was highlighted they’re considering the possibility of this category of workers being treated the same as pilots and engineers”, it said.

The Ministry expects a lasting solution, while next week, a working group at an expert level should formalize conclusions from Tuesday’s meeting.

In the meantime, the EC has confirmed the implementation of the Entry/Exit System (EES) will end by the foreseen deadline, April, but EU members will be able to prolong it by September due to the influx of tourists in the upcoming summer season.
