Trade Union Federation Submits Initiative to Reduce Salaries of Officials

On Wednesday, the Trade Union Federation submitted to Parliament and all Parliamentary Groups an initiative to reduce salaries of officials, calling for urgent and immediate passage.

According to the Federation, the minimum wage in the country, not the average pay, should be used as the base to calculate salaries of officials, while there should be also a 40% reduction of existing calculation coefficients. However, the same day, asked by Telma whether there would be a reduction of coefficients to prevent the increase, the Government said alignment would be in line with legal provisions and the standard.

“After last year’s decision to stop the increase of salaries, passed as part of broader measures for financial stability, this year, regular alignment of salaries is expected, in accordance with legal provisions and movements of the living standard”, it said.

Also on Wednesday, PM Mickoski said unions had been offered a formula according to which personal income for public administration employees would be calculated. As he added, the majority of them agree that wages should be calculated in line with the existing governmental formula.
