At an event on Friday, Raed Arafat, State Secretary at the Romanian Interior Ministry, stated that the 2015 Bucharest nightclub, this year’s Crans-Montana, and last year’s Kochani fires had one common denominator: oversights regarding fire protocols and drastic overcrowding.
Regarding the Colectiv fire in the Romanian capital, he stated that though it had been put out in six minutes, the consequences had been disastrous. EU Ambassador Rokas said it was hard to recover following a tragedy such as the Kochani one, but smart ways and opportunities had to be found to move forward.
Romanian Ambassador Axinte underlined the importance of solidarity and learning from experiences, while Swiss Ambassador Sommer stated that such events usually happened as a result of irresponsible running of such facilities, also in relation to those in charge of supervision to introduce safety measures.
