Audit Reports should Be Considered Actively, OSCE Mission Head Says

In Parliament on Wednesday, at an OSCE-supported event, Mission Head Wahl assessed that audit reports should be considered actively instead of just formally.

As he added, only that way can a change and overcoming of problems that have repeated themselves be overcome. He also believes there should be a more efficient system to control whether institutions implement recommendations, saying they should be invited to give an answer and, after a certain period of time, those matters should be revisited for progress to be assessed.

Auditor General Acevski stated that taxpayers had the right to be sure every denar was used in the best way, with the Office having the responsibility to ensure that.

However, he pointed out that he expected the Office’s efforts to be properly valued, adding in that regard he expected the new law on the institution to be passed soon. Both ruling majority and opposition MPs are satisfied with the Office’s work.
