On Wednesday, at the marking of the anniversary of the 1943 deportation of 7,144 Macedonian Jews from Bitola, Shtip, and Skopje to Treblinka, Jewish Community President Pepo Levi said though 83 years had passed, the pain and bitterness hadn’t reduced. As he pointed out, 98% of Macedonian Jews were destroyed.
German Ambassador Drexler said that, as a representative of Germany, she was deeply moved by the opportunity to address the commemoration.
“Even 83 years later, the cruelty and brutality inflicted on the Jewish families in Bitola, Skopje, and Shtip remain incomprehensible”, she said.
