Ivana and Katja Case: Charge Filed against Suspect Jovanovski

The suspect in the Ivana and Katja case, Stojanche Jovanovski, has been charged. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the Karposh tragedy, which saw his wife jump from the building’s sixth floor together with the daughter, was the result of his longstanding mental and physical violence.

He’s been charged with multiple crimes, including domestic violence with infliction of bodily injuries, endangering the safety, and instigation to and assistance in suicide.

According to investigative findings on March 2, at several locations in Skopje, he physically attacked his wife, slapping and punching her, causing her to lose consciousness at one point. Later, in the parking lot behind the Criminal Court, he made serious death threats against her, which further increased her anxiety and fear.

The Office claims that the abuse lasted for a long period. Ivana, who was dependent on her husband from a factual and livelihood standpoint, endured humiliation, beatings, and threats, often in the presence of their daughter. The violence intensified significantly during 2025.

On the day of the tragedy, after new threats and attacks, she returned home with the child intending to pack and leave. However, the psychological state she was in, filled with fear, hopelessness, and the feeling that there was no way out, led to the tragedy. An extension of the detention measure against Jovanovski has been sought.
