Parliament Speaker Gashi Comments on Multiple Topics

Regarding the Political Committee System session on the nomination of Judge Nenad Saveski as Prosecutor General, Parliament Speaker Gashi said on Monday it was scheduled for the following day (March 17).

When it comes to Constitutional Court President Kostadinovski’s comments on the issue of whether Safe City texts should be sent in Albanian, too, the Speaker stated that everyone should be careful when making statements, especially if it was about interethnic relations.

As regards Kostadinvoski’s comments that “Parliament is a constitutionally undisciplined organ, which is why the Constitutional Court will no longer tolerate” non-respect of its decisions, the Speaker said the legislative house carried out its activity in line with the Constitution, law, and Rules of Procedure.

When it comes to election processes, Gashi pointed out all matters should be raised at the meetings of the Electoral Code working group. Though he said he was in favor of open lists, he added he would support anything stemming from the working group.

As far as whether the government is currently ready to make constitutional changes related to the Electoral Code, the Speaker stated that that didn’t fall within his scope of work.

Asked about the Law on Enforcement, on which there is a procedure before the Constitutional Court, Gashi said that there had to be a swift reaction since it was a sensitive matter. When it comes to topics related to VLEN and which party is expected to get the position of Secretary General, Gashi declined to comment.
