The constitutional complaint instrument is absolutely necessary, but its introduction requires changes to the Constitution, which is a sensitive topic and for which conditions should be created.
That was assessed at the opening of Tuesday’s roundtable on introducing a constitutional complaint as an instrument for protecting human rights and freedoms. PM Mickoski said the rule of law was an imperative that had to be respected.
“The Law on the Constitutional Court and the constitutional complaint, we agree with Kostadinovski, that it is necessary, but this requires a change to the Constitution”, the PM noted.
He, however, added that the matter was a painful topic domestically, stressing that it was best for conditions to be created for a change to the Constitution in order not to upset the already upset public. EU Ambassador Rokas said it was important for fundamental reforms to go hand in hand.
The OSCE Mission Head, Ambassador Wahl, said reforms in the area took time, underlining that the Constitutional Court had already had significant steps forward, including the live streaming of sessions.
