Initiative for Taking Bar Exam in Mother Tongue Submitted to Government

On Tuesday, Ombudsperson Faton Selami stated that his institution had submitted initiatives to the Government concerning legal changes that would enable candidates to take the Bar, Notary, and Enforcement Agent Exams in the mother tongue. As he added, if that is not enabled, there will be indirect discrimination on the grounds of language.

Regarding femicide cases in 2025, Selami said there were oversights in institutional reaction. Therefore, what’s necessary is to provide prevention and coordinated systemic dealing with families with so-called risky behavior, as well as to establish mechanisms enabling early intervention and protection of children and other family members even when a victim doesn’t file a formal report, he stressed.

According to the Ombudsperson, the number of shelter centers in the country is not enough. Selami’s position is that after a victim files a report, they must be sure that the state guarantees their safety, instead of them being forced to return to relatives, making them potential victims as well.
