New Reactions to Bar Exam in Albanian Issue

Regarding the Bar Exam issue, BESA leader and Tetovo Mayor Kasami, who’s part of VLEN, believes students should be able to take it in Albanian, provided they have completed their entire education in that language. He said on Tuesday that there was work to find legal solution to the issue, “inherited from previous governments”.

DUI again stressed that the right to use Albanian was guaranteed and the state had to ensure its implementation in practice. The party’s Vice President, Bujar Osmani, stated that he’d informed international representatives that the Government was distorting the nature of the student protests and labelling them as politically motivated, which was creating a false perception regarding the country’s reality.

DPM Bekim Sali, who, like Kasami, is part of VLEN, stated that the students’ demand would be met.

Blendi Hodai of the Forum for Educational Change stressed that passing the Bar Exam didn’t automatically make a person a judge or a prosecutor, i.e., it just opened the door to further training, which was in Macedonian.

“Therefore, it is not clear where the problem is in terms of students that studied for four years in Albanian to use the right they’re entitled by law”, he noted.

SDSM said a solution should be found in order for everyone to be able to exercise their fundamental human rights in accordance with the law.
