New Reactions in North Macedonia to Election Results in Hungary

Answering a journalist’s question on Tuesday, PM Mickoski said if former PM Gruevski returned to the country, he would immediately be sent to prison to serve his sentence. As he added, all laws apply, while the Government has to respect laws and all other institutions.

Though everyone is entitled to exercising rights and filing appeals, there’s an effective verdict, the PM assessed. Nonetheless, Mickoski added that he didn’t expect Gruevski to return. On the other hand, SDSM leader Filipche said the Government, i.e., the Justice Minister from the ranks of ZNAM, Filkov, had to request that Gruevski be extradited.

“This is the final end of the era in which Budapest was a safe harbor for all convicted corrupt criminals”, he added.

The SDSM leader also asked whether Gruevski would escape to Russia or some other country or he would return to serve his sentence.

Filipche also described Magyar’s election victory in Hungary as a win of Europe against Russian and Chinese influence and a win of the rule of law against corruption. However, Mickoski adamantly rejected SDSM’s accusations regarding shady Hungarian investments in media, energy, and telecommunications.
