So-called One Citizenship Per MP Bill Put on Parliament’s Agenda

With 77 votes in favor and eight against, the bill foreseeing one citizenship per MP was today put on the agenda of Parliament, VMRO-DPMNE’s Antonijo Miloshoski, who’s among the proponents, said on Wednesday. SDSM will support the law that will foresee MPs holding only one, North Macedonia, citizenship.

The opposition party’s MP, Oliver Spasovski, however, said it was about a purely populist move, adding that it was impossible to provide proof of whether an MP had only one (North Macedonia) or multiple citizenship. That’s why he considers the amendment inapplicable.

However, Spasovski stressed that SDSM would propose expanding the ban on dual citizenship to other officials as well and that the amendments should also apply to the current Parliamentary composition, for which SDSM would submit a draft amendment.
