Ombudsperson Presents Worrying Data on Sexual Abuse of Children

Sexual abuse of children remains a serious and continuous problem in the country, according to the Ombudsperson’s latest analyses. From 2020 to 2024, 508 cases were registered, as well as another 96 last year.

Despite the existence of a legal framework, the system still does not provide sufficiently efficient and timely protection for children. The most vulnerable category is kids aged 11 to 15, who make up over 57% of the victims. Girls are significantly more often affected (in up to 90% of the cases).

The analysis also points out serious weaknesses in the system. Experts recommend systemic changes: a single interviewing of victims, the creation of premises adapted for children, continuous training of professionals, and the introduction of integrated support models.
