After 24 hours, the Vizbegovo scrapyard fire has been completely extinguished. One firefighter complained of exhaustion, but nobody has suffered serious injuries.
Initially, it was reported that the fire had broken out from an iron and sheet metal cutting machine. However, the owners of the scrapyard stated on Tuesday that the machine hadn’t been turned on at all.
There are suspicions that the fire had been smoldering for a longer period of time before it suddenly erupted and spread over a large area on Tuesday. The thick smoke also drifted towards Skopje and the neighborhoods between the scrapyard and the capital. The Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation.
