The Network for Protection against Discrimination and the Platform for Gender Equality have fiercely reacted to the statement by PM Hristijan Mickoski that the domestic violence for which his bodyguard has been issued an eight-day detention represents a “minor offense”.
They point out that for more than 20 years, acts of domestic violence have been treated as crime.
According to the organizations, only since the Ivana and Katja tragedy has the issue of whether and how the system functions begun to be seriously opened. At that time, the PM himself urged victims to report and not to withdraw their reports.
“Such statements are not without consequences”, they add.
The organizations have demanded that the PM seriously, vocally, and unequivocally condemn every act of gender-based violence.
