Parliament Passes Council of Public Prosecutors Bill

On Thursday, with 64 votes in favor, 15 against, and zero abstentions, Parliament passed the Council of Public Prosecutors Bill, which is part of the Reform Agenda.

The new Law introduces essential changes aimed at strengthening the independence, professionalism, and transparency in the work of the Council and the Public Prosecutor’s Office as a whole. Among them are clear and transparent criteria on expertise, experience, and integrity, in line with the example of the new Law on the Judicial Council. The goal is to ensure the selection of the highest-quality candidates.

SDSM voted against. According to the party, the Law is not at all a reform one, while the majority has rejected its, as it pointed out, essential remarks aiming to improve the text.
