Sela and Alliance for Albanians Wing Submit Equitable Representation Bill

While the text of the Government’s equitable representation bill is still not publicly available, even though it was submitted to Parliament a month ago, MP Sela and his wing Alliance for Albanians have submitted their own bill.

It foresees employment based on ethnic quotas derived from demographic data, with a possibility of so-called late census registration. It also provides for fines ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 euros for any state institution that fails to employ people “proportionally”, as well as a 3,000–6,000–euro fine for directors of institutions that fail to do so.

VLEN co-leader Mexhiti said there were no official decisions regarding the reshuffle. Regarding the Bar Exam protests, including also the one being organized in Tirana that day, VLEN’s stand is there is no reason to stage protests. However, unlike DPM Sali, Mexhiti noted that work was still underway on the legal changes, adding that he expected them to be finalized soon.

At the protest in Albania’s capital, which started at Skanderbeg Square, participants expressed support for their demands of their peers in North Macedonia.
