Former Customs Administration Director Stefan Bogoev has been detained at the Kisela Voda Police Station. According to unofficial information, he was deprived of liberty on Tuesday under suspicion of exerting influence in the selection of a cleaning company during his one-year term as head of the institution.
The operation covers other persons, as well as other criminal acts. In its press release, the Financial Police Administration said searches of homes, business premises, and individuals at multiple locations were underway.
“The operation stems from a pre-investigative procedure aimed at detecting and documenting multiple criminal acts in the field of financial crime and corruption, for which there are grounds of suspicion that they were committed by officials and other persons who used their influence, social position, and reputation in order to acquire unlawful property gain on a large scale”, the institution added.
Some of the suspects will be brought before a judge on Wednesday (June 3).
