Slovakia supports the European perspective of North Macedonia and does so as a friend, partner, and ally, Slovak President Pellegrini said at Tuesday’s press conference in Bratislava following his meeting with counterpart Siljanovska Davkova. He also added that enlargement had to be fair, predictable, and based on the same rules that applied to all candidates.
The Slovak President stated that that meant that candidates had to meet agreed criteria, but also that the EU had to send a clear signal that fulfilling conditions would lead to concrete steps forward.
Regarding North Macedonia’s EU path, Siljanovska Davkova said she sometimes called it a marathon because it was a long journey filled with numerous irrational obstacles of an identity nature.
