Former Karposh Mayor Jakimovski has been sentenced to one year in prison for unlawful construction, i.e., in the case concerning the construction of the Municipality’s building, the Appellate Court has ruled. Specifically, it’s about the prefabs that had housed the Municipality’s administration until the new building was opened. The Court has partially confirmed the first-instance verdict against him and T.G. in the process.
The second-instance institution explains that the time Jakimovski spent under house arrest (from March 19, 2019, to August 15, 2019) is counted toward the prison sentence. Several media have reported that it means Jakimovski will actually spend seven months behind bars.
For one part of the case, which is related to the act of abuse of official position and authority, the trial will be restarted. The statute of limitations on that would expire in 2027.
Commenting on the Appellate Court’s decision, Jakimovski said he expected the Supreme Court would dismiss the “political verdict”, adding that the goal was to prevent him from running in the Karposh rerun process.
