A North Macedonia citizen who recently returned from a vacation in the Maldives has tested positive for the Zika virus, the Institute of Public Health has said. It explains that it is the country’s first such recorded case.
The patient traveled to the Maldives from May 20 to May 28. He confirmed he’d been bitten by a mosquito there. He developed the initial symptoms — a low-grade fever and muscle and joint aches — on May 24. Four days later, he developed a fine, dense skin rash. A positive Zika virus diagnosis was confirmed on the basis of medical examinations and microbiological laboratory tests.
