Dubrovnik Forum: U.S. Expert Joseph and Mucunski Address Panel Discussion

In his address to the panel discussion “The EU and the Western Balkans: Resolving Unfinished Business Together”, within the Dubrovnik Forum, Edward Joseph, Lecturer at Johns Hopkins University and expert in Southeast Europe, discussed the matter of North Macedonia’s EU path and Skopje-Sofia relations.

As he noted, pressuring Skopje to implement an agreement that has absolutely no guarantee that Sofia will honor it in its spirit and not make more identity demands is another mistake by the EU.

Foreign Minister Mucunski, at the same panel, stated that one member state insisted on an additional set of bilateral demands involving matters related to national history, as well as other areas, that, in his view, are not part of the EU acquis and membership criteria.
