Peer Violence: Janevska Says Upbringing Component Lacking in Many Families

Draft legislative changes are currently in procedure in Parliament that provide for fines for parents and guardians of children who are found to have committed peer violence in schools, Minister of Education Janevska said on Thursday. As she underlined, the upbringing component is lacking in many families.

Without greater involvement from parents, it will not be possible to successfully prevent peer violence, the Minister assessed.

Specifically regarding the Aerodrom peer violence case, she stated that it had shown children with a lack of empathy and distorted values. The Minister made those comments at a panel dedicated to peer violence in Gazi Baba, where she also emphasized that violence among students could only be prevented through the joint action of institutions, teachers, parents, and the entire community.
