Constitutional Court President Kostadinovski Comments on Several Topics

The decisions of the Court are based exclusively on respecting legal procedures, not on political or ethnic interests, Constitutional Court President Kostadinovski said on Tuesday, referring to the reactions to the Tetovo street names case.

He said that the institution couldn’t legitimize decisions not made in line with prescribed procedures because such an approach would create a dangerous precedent for all municipalities in the country. Kostadinovski also rejected accusations that he acted on an ethnic basis.

Regarding criticism from prosecutors over the issue of pay, Kostadinovski said that the vote on the case concerning prosecutors’ salaries was 4:4, while the initiative regarding salaries within the Council of Public Prosecutors was still being reviewed. He said the judicial power and Prosecutor’s Office had to take radical steps to restore citizen trust.
