Skopje – ECOC 2028 Bill Removed from Parliament’s Agenda

The Bill related to the implementation of the Skopje — European Capital of Culture (ECoC) 2028 project was removed from Parliament’s agenda on Wednesday.

The compromise was agreed upon at an extraordinary coordination meeting convened by Speaker Gashi and the heads of the Parliamentary Groups, after the opposition had previously prevented the adoption of the agenda through procedural objections. It was agreed that the text would be on the agenda of a new session following Parliament’s recess period.

Regarding the reactions from civil society organizations, VMRO-DPMNE MP Nikola Micevski said the remarks had been made even though they hadn’t read the text, which was why consultations would follow.

SDSM MP Bisera Kostadinovska-Stojchevska, on the other hand, said that if passed, the current form of the Bill would create room for tenders without any control, i.e., 21 million euros in taxpayer money would be able to be spent without implementing the public procurement legislation.
