Residents of the village of Trkanje, Kochani region, have been facing daily water supply interruptions for two weeks now.
They say they have been left without water for one to two hours a day, adding that when it flows from the taps again, it is murky and dirty. Therefore, they fear there will be damage to household appliances, in addition to pointing to potential health risks.
Additionally, they state that even when only air passes through the water supply network, the water meters continue to register consumption. The reason for the frequent interruptions, in their view, is a fault in the pump that transfers water from the water plant to the reservoir in Trkanje.
The Mayor of Kochani, Vladko Grozdanov, however, has refuted the allegations. In consultation with the management of local water supply public enterprise, he says residents themselves cause the problem because instead of using clean processed water from the water supply system for drinking and personal hygiene, they misuse it for watering lawns, gardens, and gardening crops.
Grozdanov claims there is no fault in the pump supplying the system with drinking water.
