Kochani Court Rejects Iva Mihajlova’s Request for Treatment Abroad

Lawyer Naser Raufi has confirmed for Telma that the Basic Court in Kochani rejected the request of his client, 23-year-old Iva Mihajlova, for spinal injury treatment abroad. Mihajlova is accused of causing a traffic accident resulting in a fatality, and her passports have been seized.

Her defense believes that all medical documents confirming that Mihajlova cannot be treated in North Macedonia have been provided. The case has been widely exploited in Bulgaria because the young woman from Kochani self-identifies as a Bulgarian and holds dual citizenship.

Raufi will appeal the decision rejecting the request before the Shtip Appellate Court on Monday (August 10). The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry, in a press release, has expressed concern over the decision rejecting the request for treatment in Bulgaria.
