The wildfire that started on the Prespa side and is moving toward Pelister National Park remains the most difficult and complex fire to contain in North Macedonia, said Director of the Protection and Rescue Directorate, Stojanche Angelov.
Firefighters from Resen and Bitola, Directorate teams, machinery, Air Tractor aircraft and an army helicopter are battling the blaze. A three-ton water bucket helicopter extinguished several critical hotspots, but new flare-ups appeared as temperatures rose.
During the operations, a bulldozer driver who was helping to put the fire out has been injured. By 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, authorities detected 17 fires in the open, of which two are under control while seven remain active.
