An investigation has been opened into six individuals and two companies suspected of embezzling more than EUR 2.2 million and laundering money through false reports and payment slips related to vehicle registration and public-road fees.
Among those under investigation are a company owner, executives of an insurance brokerage, an accountant, a technical inspection station manager and a deputy finance director at the Public Enterprise for State Roads. Prosecutors said funds were transferred between company accounts and used partly to purchase real estate.
