Kochani Fire Defendant Jovanov to Be Released from Detention

Dejan Jovanov, owner of the Pulse nightclub in Kochani, where 63 people died in a devastating fire, is expected to be released from pretrial detention on October 3. The Criminal Court in Skopje confirmed that his latest detention extension runs until that date, citing a legal limit of one year from the review of the indictment.

Jovanov was detained shortly after the March 16 fire, with his detention formally ordered on March 23, 2025. His trial, which began in November and includes 33 other defendants, is still ongoing and is expected to be one of the country’s largest and longest cases.
