Lottery Case Hearing Postponed after Bajrami’s Arrest

The new hearing in the State Lottery case has been postponed from September 11 and 16 to September 18 after former State Lottery director and first defendant Perparim Bajrami surrendered to authorities.

Bajrami, who had been wanted under an international warrant after leaving the country, turned himself in at the Blace border crossing at 5:35 a.m. and was subsequently taken to Skopje Prison to serve a previously ordered detention measure.

The Criminal Court said the hearings were postponed because Bajrami has eight days to review the indictment and evidence. Prosecutors said he has been charged with abuse of official position and authority and that the proceedings are ongoing, while four additional investigations involving him remain active.\

The case also involves six other defendants. Prosecutors allege that actions taken in 2023 and 2024 caused MKD 596.1 million in damage to the State Lottery.
