Director of the Public Security Bureau Aleksandar Janev participated today in a bilateral North Macedonia–Greece exercise on mutual legal assistance in financial crime cases, organized with support from the OSCE Mission in Skopje. The exercise focused on strengthening practical cooperation between institutions in both countries through the exchange of experience, information, and best practices.
Janev stressed that financial crime and criminal networks cross borders, requiring a joint, timely, and coordinated institutional response. He highlighted the importance of direct information sharing, effective mutual legal assistance, financial investigations, monitoring suspicious transactions, and exchanging relevant investigative data.
As neighboring countries, North Macedonia and Greece have a particular responsibility to strengthen security cooperation and develop mechanisms that enable authorities to stay ahead of crime. Janev emphasized that such exercises help test cooperation mechanisms and improve procedures for complex cross-border cases.
