The country meets the conditions, but remains outside the EU due to bilateral issues, PM Mickoski assessed in a conversation with the Atlantic Council in Washington.
Asked whether he believed that EU enlargement was truly merit-based and whether his country had completed its homework yet had remained left outside the bloc, the PM stated that that was precisely how the process should be, but that the Macedonian case had been burdened with bilateral conditions for years.
Relations with the U.S. were also among the focal points of Mickoski’s address, with the PM stressing that the strategic partnership had to be further deepened. Mickoski touched upon, among other things, opportunities for new American investments, the construction of data centers, the energy interconnection with Greece, and the potential for exploiting critical minerals.
