A group of 20 criminals has been arrested in a major police operation underway since Wednesday. The group was operating for over 15 years. Some members are suspected of having committed burglaries in Greece as well, specifically in the areas of Chalkidiki and Kallithea. The group also conducted criminal operations in Spain.
Among those arrested is an individual who had escaped from house arrest in Spain. During the operation, searches were carried out in the homes of police officers suspected of having assisted the criminal group by leaking operational information.
The perpetrators also invested their illicit earnings outside North Macedonia. It is being investigated whether real estate in Serbia was acquired with so-called dirty money. During Wednesday’s searches, cash exceeding 120,000 euros was seized, alongside roughly 10 vehicles.
