President Siljanovska Davkova has signed the decree on the Criminal Code changes, which have already been published in the Official Gazette. Despite the stand of the Platform of CSOs for Fight against Corruption, she said on Thursday that the new version was a transitional one until a new code was passed.
Also, the President pointed out that the fact that opposition MPs had voted in favor was a sufficient reason behind her decision to sign the decree.
The Platform, however, considers her step to be a surprise, but also a repeat of what went on in terms of the 2023 changes. It has adhered to its stand that the new version is creating a risk of institutional confusion and backsliding in fighting high corruption.
