In an interview with Voice of America (VoA) Macedonian, President Stevo Pendarovski says the changes to the Criminal Code will not result in ex-PM Nikola Gruevski returning to North Macedonia.
However, he can’t guarantee a scenario that the ex-PM would face justice in the event of him returning. When it comes to what message he expects from the U.S. following the State Department’s stand on the changes, Pendarovski points out that the position didn’t follow directly the changes, that is, those were already known stands by EU representatives too. He agrees that the country doesn’t have enough efforts to reduce corruption. When it comes to the expulsion of Russians, he stresses that despite their status as diplomats, they were part of espionage activities.
