58-hour Curfew Proposed by Infectious Diseases Committee

On Wednesday, the Infectious Diseases Committee proposed to the Government to introduce a curfew for the coming weekend lasting from Saturday at 7 pm to Tuesday at 5 am. Non-compliance with protection measures over the past days, primarily as a result of family gatherings, which has resulted in an increase of coronavirus cases, is the reason for the Committee’s decision. “In that regard, we think only a rigorous measure like this will have a true effect,” Health Minister Venko Filipce said. So far, a session of the Government at which the proposal will be discussed hasn’t been scheduled. When it comes to the issue of opening borders, the Minister believes that it should be done very carefully. “I think it’s still early for our conditions,” he stressed, adding that there was no need to rush.
