Byrnes: Evident Progress Made since Prespa Deal Signing and NATO Integration

According to US Ambassador Kate Marie Byrnes, North Macedonia has made evident progress since the signing of the Prespa Agreement and NATO integration. However, she said on Thursday that that step had to be maintained. The US Ambassador believes that the period ahead will be of key importance to the country’s future as a prop serious ally contributing to stability in the region. In her view, there may be challenges in the future, such as corruption, nepotism, and even non-functional institutions, which hinders the country’s path towards the set goals. The Ambassador’s stand is that Government leaders must face the frequent discrepancy between the public’s high expectations for EU membership and genuine weight of reforms that should be implemented as a precondition for membership.
